RESUMO
Los objetivos específicos de este estudio fueron dos: establecerdatos de referencia para el somatotipo de la seleccióny por posiciones de juego en jugadoras cubanas devoleibol, y comparar las características del somatotipo entreposiciones de juego. Se midió a 43 atletas con el métodode somatotipo antropométrico de Heath-Carter. Las atletashabían jugado voleibol un promedio de 10,9 años, y fueronconsideradas la base de las preselecciones nacionalesdurante tres ciclos olímpicos (1988-1992, 1992-1996 y1996-2000). Las jugadoras se dividieron en tres grupos: atacadorascentrales, atacadoras auxiliares y pasadoras, y sussomatotipos promedios fueron, respectivamente, 2,8-3,2-3,5; 2,3-3,4-3,2 y 3,2-3,9-2,2. El somatotipo fue significativamentediferente entre jugadoras de diferentes posiciones(p ≤ 0,05). Las pasadoras fueron menos homogéneas quelas jugadoras de otras posiciones. De las trece categoríasdel somatotipo descritas, las jugadoras cubanas mostrarononce. Las categorías más dominantes fueron mesomórficoectomórfico,ectomórfico-balanceado, mesomórfico-balanceado y ectomesomórfico(AU)
The specific aim of this study was twofold: first to establishreference data for team and game roles somatotype in Cubanfemale volleybal players, and to compare the characteristicsamong game roles. Forty three athletes were measuredaccording to the Heath-Carter anthropometricsomatotype method. The subjects had been playing volleyballfor 10.9 years, on average and they were considered thebase of the national preselections during the three OlympicCycles (1988-1992, 1992-1996 and 1996-2000). They weredivided into three groups: Centers, Spikers and Setters.Their average somatotype was, respectively: 2.8-3.2-3.5, 2.3-3.4-3.2 and 3.2-3.9-2.2. The somatotype was significantlydifferent in players in different roles (p ≤ 0.05). Setters wereless homogeneous than those of other roles. Of the thirteencategories of somatotypes described, Cuban volleybalplayers showed eleven. Mesomphic-ectomorphic, balancedectomorphs,balanced-mesomorphs and ectomorphic-mesomorphwere the most dominant categories(AU)
